Train types in Czech Republic: Local, 'Accelerated', Fast, Express, InterCity, EuroCity/EuroNight & Super City trains

Discounts, special offers & ways to save money for passengers traveling in Czech Republic (CD/RegioJet):

  • First Minute Česko (Včasná jízdenka, previously known as SporoTickets): special discounted tickets for journeys within Czech Republic (between 114 selected cities), can be purchased online (from CD eShop), from CD ticket machines or ticket coutners at the stations (if >1 day in advance). First Minute Česko tickets sold with principle - earlier you purchase, the cheaper you travel, meaning that for instance you travel from Prague to Brno where full fare ticket is 340 CZK, First Minute Česko tickets bought in advance start from only 180 CZK or from Prague to Plzen it's 156 vs. 90 CZK etc.
  • Action Ticket (Akční jízdenka): special offer ticket (one way & return) for travel between selected cities (Prague – Ostrava region/Zlín; Prague-Brno; Prague-Hradec Králové; Prague-Plzeň; Brno-Olomouc; Brno – Prostějov; Brno – Uherské Hradiště & Brno – Zlín). For instance 'Action Tickets' from Brno to Prague is just 210 CZK one way or 420 CZK return, while full fare price ticket for the same connection is 340 CZK or Ostrava to Prague 295 vs. 465 CZK etc.  
  • Return Ticket discount (Zpáteční jízdenka): passengers can as well receive 5% discount on all the full fare tickets, if purchase return ticket within Czech Republic (CD return tickets are valid for two days)
  • Group Ticket discount (Skupinová jízdenka): when traveling in groups of 2 and more, first passenger pays full fare price, second passengers receives an automatic 30% discount, while third and each additional passenger receive a 50% discount. Discount is valid only for 2nd class tickets & can be combined with Return Ticket discount
  • All Day Ticket (Celodenní jízdenka, previously known as CD-NET): day pass for the entire Czech Rail network or just one Czech region. Passenger can travel the whole day with no limitation of distance or number of trains used, 2nd class only. All Day Ticket can be purchased for any day. All Day Ticket for the whole Czech Republic is 550 CZK, All-day region Central Bohemia ticket is 225 CZK, All-day region Ústí nad Labem/South Moravia/Moravia-Silesia tickets are 200 CZK, All-day region South Bohemia/Plzeň/Pardubice/Hradec Králové/Olomouc tickets are 175 CZK & All-day region Karlovy Vary/Liberec/Vysočina/Zlín tickets are 150 CZK.   • Group Weekend Ticket (Skupinová víkendová jízdenka, previously known as SONE): group/family pass for the entire Czech Rail network or just one Czech region during whole day on Saturday, Sunday or state holidays, valid up to for 2 adults + 3 children, without limitation of distance or number of trains used. Group Weekend Ticket for the whole Czech Republic is 600 CZK (or 700 CZK with city transport (MHD) pass in Prague), Group Weekend region Central Bohemia ticket is 275 CZK (or 400 CZK with city transport (MHD) pass in Prague), Group Weekend Ústí nad Labem/South Moravia/Moravia-Silesia tickets are 250 CZK, Group Weekend region South Bohemia/Plzeň/Pardubice/Hradec Králové/Olomouc tickets are 225 CZK & Group Weekend region Karlovy Vary/Liberec/Vysočina/Zlín tickets are 200 CZK.   • RegioJet: passengers planning to travel on the line Zilina-Havirov-Ostrava-Prague besides using CD train can as well travel with private rail company RegioJet (associated with already well-known Student Agency bus company), while competing with CD, RegioJet tends to offer a pretty good fares on their train tickets. So best thing to do is just to compare offers (First Minute, Action Ticket) of CD and Regio Jet for the time & day you want to travel

a) Regular discounts

  • 55% off Czech Republic - Slovakia connections
  • 50% for Czech Republic - Lithuania connections
  • 40% off Czech Republic - Poland - tariff MOST (50% for groups); Czech Republic - Hungary (only connections from Prague to Budapest & from Brno to Budapest)
  • 30% off Czech Republic - Hungary, Serbia, Romania, Bulgaria, FYR Macedonia (all via Slovakia)
  • 30% off Czech Republic – Russia/Ukraine connections (including via Slovakia)
  • 20% off Czech Republic - Latvia connections

Passengers can also take advantage of special Multilateral Agreement between a number of Central European railway companies. It allows to get 30% (or 40% for youth<26 years old and 50% for groups more than 6 passengers) discount from regular SCIC-NRT/TCV tariff fare on any return ticket purchased for connections between countries participants of the tariff Agreement (Czech Republic (CD), Hungary (MAV), Romania (CFR), Poland (PKP), Slovakia (ZSSK), Bulgaria (BZD), Serbia (ZS) and FYR Macedonia (MZ)

Though at the same time potential passengers need to be careful and also consider possible bilateral agreements between Czech Railways (CD) and rail companies in other countries (those might be cheaper at the end). In case of Czech Republic it's cheaper to purchase tickets to Poland, Slovakia and Budapest with a help of other discounts (MOST tariff for Poland, special discount Czech Republic-Slovakia (called 'sousedská přeprava') and special discount Prague/Brno-Budapest (called 'relačni slevy')

*"One-way online tickets can be purchased only from the Czech Republic and not in the opposite direction. To purchase an online ticket in the direction to Czech Republic it is necessary to purchase an online ticket from the Czech Republic, thus have two one way tickets (there & back), both online tickets must be presented for inspection & stamping to the Czech Railways' on-board crew or CD station counter

Czech Railways (CD) also allow purchase of discounted tickets where final destination outside Czech Republic is not the same (meaning that passenger can purchase tickets from Prague to Berlin there & from Munich to Prague back, from Prague to Vienna there & from Linz to Prague back etc.), matters only destination country and not the exact city. As result passengers only responsibility is to validate return ticket prior to leaving Czech Republic, otherwise the ticket will not be valid

c) CityStars (must be purchased at least 3 days in advance, except CityStars to Slovakia)

  • EURegio Austria - from České Budějovice to Linz return (457 CZK); from Plzeň to Vienna return (711 CZK); from Znojmo to Vienna return (469 CZK); from Brno to Vienna (551 CZK); from České Budějovice to Vienna (904 CZK); from České Velenice to Gmünd (32 CZK); from Břeclav to Gänserndorf (275 CZK)

  • Group Weekend Ticket purchased in Czech Republic from CD ticket counter (NOT online via eShop) is valid till German border stations Bad Brambach, Bärenstein, Furth im Wald, Johanngeorgenstadt, Klingenthal, Schirnding, Schöna & Zittau
  • SONE +Germany – similar offer as Group Weekend Ticket (see above), but includes neighboring regions of Germany (see map here). SONE+DB price is 700CZK (if valid for the whole Czech network) or from 300 to 350 CZK (if valid within one Czech region only)
  • All Day Ticket +Germany - similar offer as All Day region Ticket (see above), but includes neighboring regions of Germany (see map here). Plzeň/Karlovy Vary/Ústí/Liberec regions + Germany Tickets cost from 250 to 300 CZK depenging on Czech region
  • Labe-Elbe Ticket: one-day network pass valid for several operators (rail, buses, municipal) in neighboring regions of Czech Republic and Germany. Labe-Elbe Ticket can be used in a specified area on both sides of the border. Labe-Elbe one-day network ticket for one passenger is 200 CZK, for 2-5 passengers - 400 CZK
  • EgroNet Ticket: day pass for the travels by train, bus or municipal mass transport in parts of four regions - part of the Karlovy Vary region and in selected districts of Bavaria, Thuringia and Saxony – in the Egrensis Euroregion. EgroNet one-day network ticket for one person is 150 CZK

Poland:

  • Group Weekend Ticket purchased in Czech Republic from CD ticket counter (NOT online via eShop) is valid till Polish border stations Głuchołazy, Chalupki, Miedzylesie, Zebrzydowice & Lubawka. Similar possibility offers also All Day Ticket (crossing the border is allowed only in Os & Sp trains)
  • All Day Ticket +Poland - similar offer as All Day region Ticket (see above), but includes neighboring regions of Poland (see map here). Moravia-Silesia/Pardubice/Hradec Králové/Liberec regions +Poland Tickets cost from 250 to 300 CZK depenging on Czech region. Also available Group Weekend Ticket +Poland, 700 CZK for national Ticket & from 300 to 350 CZK for regional Group Weekend tickets +Poland
  • Travel to Głuchołazy with Czech domestic tariff: ticket from Ostrava to Głuchołazy 124 CZK one way or 223 CZK return, from Šumperk to Głuchołazy 112 CZK one way or 201 CZK return
  • Special cross-border fares for certain cross-border connections: from Petrovice u Karviné to Zebrzydowice, from Lichkov to Miedzylesie & from Bohumín – Chalupki one way ticket for only 15 CZK (return tickets for double the price of a one-way ticket)

Slovakia:

  • Group Weekend Ticket purchased in Czech Republic from CD ticket counter (NOT online via eShop) is valid till Slovak border stations Vrbovce, Čadca, Strelenka, Horné Srnie & Kúty
