Hi tUt, hope you are well :)

I will be doing the following loop this July: Bratislava to Khmelnitsky (via Kosice and Chop), back to Lviv, down to Odessa, bus to Chisinau, train to Iasi, night train to Timisoara, train back to Bratislava (via Budapest). I was wondering when I can book the Ukrainian trains? I can only book a month or so in advance, so will I have to wait until June? The same question applies for the Iasi to Timisoara sleeper - will I have to wait until the new timetable in June?

I assume I can buy Timisoara to Budapest from MAV website as well?

And does buying Bratislava to Chop (special cross border fare) save any money compared to Bratislava to Cierna nad Tisou + buy ticket at station to Chop?

Thanks in advance!

Travel plans, routes and timetables / Podgorica to Subotica
« on: June 27, 2016, 08:06:01 pm »
Hello  :)

I have to make this journey at the end of July. I was wondering about the availability of tickets for train 1136.

I will be in Budapest about 2 weeks before I take the train - can I buy a single ticket there do you think? Any idea of price for sleeper of couchette?

Plan B, if the Hungarian through carriages are sold out, is to take the same train but just travel in the Serbian couchette to Novi Sad (then take train to Subotica). Can I buy single ticket Podgorica - Novi Sad from the station in Belgrade? Or do I need to wait and buy it in Montenegro (risky, I think)

In not then plan C is... well that's something to think about :D

Thanks in advance!

Hi again  :)

I'm travelling from BA to Belgrade today, using the standard trick of splitting tickets in Budapest.

I see that there are now direct cars (Russian ones, running from Bulgaria to Moscow via Slovakia / Poland) and I was thinking of taking this for return journey (Belgrade - Bratislava) to save changing trains at 5:40 am.

Do you know how much the sleeper is for 2 people (sharing a 4 berth is OK if it's a lot cheaper)

I guess it's fine to show return leg tickets BG - BP and the second ticket of BP - Bratislava?

Thanks!

Hi - I'm going to take this train in two weeks (for about the 10th time :)  ...) but the 'real' compositions on vagonweb.cz are showing that it has run without a sleeper or a couchette.

Any idea if this is normal, or to be expected for the end of April?

Is it possible to buy a 1st class special ticket for this train? It's the next best thing I suppose...

Hi tUt :0

Haven't been here for a while, glad to see you're still helping people

I'm planning on doing the above route in July. Approx. calculations come to 75 euro per person return, like this right>

BA - Budapest - 17 euro return

BP - Belgrade - 25 Euro return

Belgrade - Bar - 20 Euro return (I'm not sure about this, I know about the limited price of 9 euro only, and not sure if I can buy it online)

My question is this: I wanna take EC 273, which is direct from Bratislava. How can I buy my other tickets in this case? Can I buy Budapest to Belgrade special from Hungarian conductor? Can they be done online?

I guess it's quite expensive to buy it as one ticket from Slovak rail, right?

And we're prepared to do the journey just sitting, but how about couchette. How much can this cost all the way from Bratislava?

Oh, and just seen this "Montenegro: 'Montenegro Spezial' Budapest-Bar return for 66 euro". Maybe this can be bought online and saves some hassle

Please advise, I really appreciate your help (and sorry for many many questions!)

Train fares and tariffs / Gdansk to Bratislava (single ticket)
« on: September 04, 2011, 08:33:25 pm »
Hi - I've been meaning to do this trip for some time (in fact you helped me work out the return fare in the past, but I had to change my plans...) and maybe it'll happen after Christmas.

My new plan is to fly from London to Gdansk. I'll then go to Warsaw, which costs about 15 Euro I think...

Now this is where I need help - Warsaw to BA, because I get no discount for a singe ticket, right?

I saw some special tickets... Spar Day from 29 Euro, Spar Night for 64 Euro for a 2 berth sleeper (perfect for us), but I was wondering if I can buy online, or how far in advance I need to buy themat the station?

I'll probably spend 3 nights in Gdansk, and a couple in Warsaw, so maybe 5 days in advance will be enough?

p.s - hope I understood this offer - my Polish is as bad as my Slovak

Train fares and tariffs / Price of Barcelona to Bratislava
« on: September 01, 2011, 11:03:52 pm »
Hi again

Do you know (or can you quickly find out) the price for this route (the exact route isn't important, but through SE France, Switzerland and Austria looks the best).... I'm thinking about buying a normal ticket and stopping off in a couple of places - is it only return tickets which allow you to do this?

And while I'm here...

Do you know any tricks to reduce the cost of Bratislava to Liverpool by train (one way would be best) The cheapest I can get it to is about 180 Euro each way including some couchettes etc (if my memory is right) - can it be done cheaper???

Thanks

Alex  :)

Train fares and tariffs / Bratislava to Prague
« on: February 15, 2011, 09:56:19 pm »
Hi - I'm a little bit confused by something. I will be traveling to Prague soon (2 of us) and I was wondering which is cheapest (if indeed there is any difference).

1. Buy a City Star (its about 34 Euro for one person I believe?) - for two?

2. Just buy a normal return ticket (there is quite a big international discount)

I have a feeling they work out the same, but maybe I'm wrong?

Thanks

Alex

Train fares and tariffs / 2-berth sleeper (Slovakia?)
« on: February 07, 2011, 11:35:02 am »
Do I need to buy a first class ticket if I want to reserve a 2-berth sleeper compartment (for travel inside Slovakia)?

I looked on Slovak Rail website and it says I do, but I thought this was usually the case with a 1 berth compartment?

Train fares and tariffs / Fare for Bratislava to Warsaw
« on: September 01, 2010, 07:21:00 pm »
Hi - I'm planning to catch the overnight train to Warsaw, spend the day there, and then catch a night train to Gdansk (I know this is a short trip, but this way I can see Warsaw and not have to pay for a hotel). I will probably do the same (or similar) on the way back.

I've seen the price for the Warsaw to Gdansk bit (can't remember, but the price was quite cheap), but how much is BA to Warsaw? I know its based on the tariff (with the bi-lateral discounts), but how can I work this out myself? Is the tariff online? Is it just a case of finding out the km's and doing some maths?!

And finally - is it best to but the international ticket, then the domestic one - or can I 'break' an international ticket?

Thanks in advance

Alex

Train fares and tariffs / Bratislava to Stuttgart
« on: August 19, 2010, 03:49:30 pm »
Hi

A friend has asked me to look into the cheapest way between these two cities. I'm going to advise her to book a Spar Scheine ticket through the OBB website (Vienna to Stuttgart) - there are a few left for her travel date in mid-October for 39 Euro, and a few more for 49 Euro, which is far cheaper than the standard on-the-day ticket.

I was wondering if there are any other options/tricks I could explore? Can anybody offer some advice?

Also, am I right that the return tickets from Bratislava to Vienna are only valid for one day after they have been stamped (I know that its one month unused)

Thanks for your help  :)

Hi everybody - just discovered this forum, its great  :)

OK, so I am traveling from Ljubljana to Bratislava (where I live) in mid-July. I know that the fare is just over 60 Euro if I buy on the day from Ljubljana (same fare if I buy in Bratislava, too), and that Slovenian rail offers a 29 Euro advanced fare; however I can't buy the 29 Euro ticket online, neither can I buy it at Bratislava station (I thought it was worth a try, even though I thought it wouldn't be possible).

My question - does anybody know if I can get this fare any cheaper? (its expensive for somebody used to Slovak trains!).

I see 3 options... but not sure about some things....

1. I arrive in Ljubljana 3 days before I travel back home - do you think there is a chance of getting hold of the 29 Euro ticket so close to the travel date?

2. Although I am traveling FROM Slovenia, do you think I could go to an Austrian station (in the next few days) and see if I can purchase the cheap ticket? I very much doubt this, but it would be worth the short journey if I could...

3. City Stars - I've seen that a City Star costs about 80 Euro for two people from Ljubljana to Vienna - much cheaper than a normal ticket. I know very little about these tickets - can I buy them on the day? Is the availability limited? Can I reserve seats whilst using this offer?

A lot of info I know - but any help would be appreciated. I'm too used to rolling up at the station and just buying the ticket on the day

Alex
