All other train travel questions / pass vs separate tickets for multi-city/multi-country

The more I read about train tickets the more confused I get. US resident. Planning a rail trip in April, 2013, starting in Barcelona to Marseilles to Lyon or Dijon to Cologne to Brugge to Paris. Then from Paris to London to cruise back to US. Total days are flexible. Doesn't the 5-day, 5-country pass make more sense and should be close to what separate tickets cost? This is the first trip to Europe. The current price quote seems reasonable, but I realize that it could change in November when we could buy it.
