Travel plans, routes and timetables / Trains from split Croatia to Ljubljana slovenia

We are going to be in the Split region ( Croatia) in mid-August this year. What is the most efficient routing to get from Split to Ljubljana (Slovenia). There does not appear to be a direct route and we are trying to avoid going back through Zagreb. Appreciate any advice.
