Thanks tUt, I'm sure I will be able to figure it out. It can't be any worse than some of the cash machines I have encountered in various countries. Thanks for your help once again. Joode.

Many thanks tUt, you have confirmed all my questions. The only reason I wanted to buy the tickets online prior to arriving there was to avoid any queueing problems at machines on the Warnemunde station as with over 2,000 people disembarking from the cruise ship there is bound to be some confusion.
Just one more thing - do you have any tips for using the machines? I assume you can choose English as an option but are they tricky to use or relatively simple?
Thanks, Joode

Hi tUt, I last contacted you in 2010 re trains in Central Europe where you gave me excellent advice and help. This time we will be on a cruise out of Amsterdam calling in at ports in the Baltic Sea. The first port is Warnemunde, Germany and we are a group of 4 who would like to take a train to Schwerin (to see the castle) and stop off at Rostock on our return journey before returning to Warnemunde where the ship will be leaving port at around 11.30pm. I have looked at the Bahn.de site and find it a little confusing! I would appreciate your help with a few items.
How do I book a Mecklenberg-Vorpommurn ticket? This seems to be the best idea though I realiise it can't be used on IC trains. Does this pass cover all 4 of us for our outward and return journey?
I believe we have to change trains at Rostock - can we get on and off any time and return at any time? Why I ask is that it the website asks for a departure and return time.
Can it be booked online and can I print the ticket?
Is there any advantage in booking early? (we are not travelling until May 2013)
What price should we pay?
If, for some reason, we are delayed and I have to change the day - is that possible?
Thanking you in advance, Kind regards, Joode

Thanks for your replies tUt. I have checked out the times and it seems that the trip will take an extra hour due to the many stops but that's OK, it will give us time to appreciate the scenery and as the price is so cheap it makes it all worthwhile!
Your help is much appreciated. J.

Thanks, that sounds great. Are we restricted to certain trains with Einfach-Raus ticket?

Hi again tUt, Well, we leave for Europe in 10 days and I am still trying to find a better way to travel from Ceske Krumlov back to Vienna in late May. Unfortunately the train combination you gave me earlier will take too much time due to the fact that we don't want to leave CK until about 1300hrs to give us time to see thru the castle as we arrive in CK on a Monday and that is the only day it isn't open! If we take a shuttle service from CK to Linz railway station we can still get back to Vienna in about 3 hours or so I think. I can access the timetables for the trains but can't find the cost of a ticket. Can you help?

Hi tUt,
Yes, you're right. I emailed them with a query regarding the Budapest-Prague ticket and they replied saying they charge 10 euro booking fee and would send them registered mail - another added cost. They also said they could courier them but didn't advise it as an option as it would cost 60 euro! The only other offer was they could deliver to a hotel in Budapest.
So, I suppose I could get them to purchase the ticket and pay 29 euro total and get it when we get to Budapest or else take my chances buying a ticket myself, which is probably what I'll do. Thanks,

I have just found a website called Centraleasteurope.com which sells discount rail tickets on various routes and they quote 19 euros for a 1 way ticket from Budapest to Prague if purchased 1 month before travel. As previously advised, the CD eShop will only sell return (2) tickets for travel originating in Budapest so I am wondering how this site can offer a 1 way ticket for the discounted price. Do you know anything about them? Are they a reputable company? I would appreciate your advice as it would make it a lot easier to be able to buy the tickets required now rather than hoping to get Spar tickets for the trip when we first arrive in Budapest.

Thank you tUt, we will try to get the discounted tickets for the next leg to Prague when we arrive in Budapest as we will be there 4 days. Re the CK leg to Vienna: You advise "take Czech domestic train to České Velenice (from Krumlov you will need to make one change in C.Budejovice), crossborder ticket České Velenice-Gmünd NÖ costs only 1 euro, from Gmund you purchase Einfach-Raus-Ticket and up to 5 people go for 28 euro till Vienna. Another option is to purchase SONE+ and go with it all the way from C.Krumlov to Gmund." Do you mean we can purchase the ticket from C.Krumlov-C.Velenice-Gmund (including cross-border ticket) at C.Krumlov? Then we exit the train at Gmund station and purchase ticket to Vienna? What is the difference between this way and purchasing the SONE+ ticket?

Hi tUt, Many thanks for your previous help - I thought it best to start a new topic as I have now finalised by various destinations and have just a couple more questions After visiting Dubrovnik we decided to rent a car and travel around Croatia/Slovenia ending up in Zagreb. We will get the #205 train from Zagreb to Budapest leaving at 10.00am (you advised to buy a return to get 60% discount, is that right?) From Budapest we will get the EC170 leaving at 9.28am to Prague. If I purchase our tickets in advance from the EShop website, do we get them for 19 euro? Or do you have to purchase them at the station to get the discounted tickets as it states that only the first 6 passengers can get the discounted fare? From Prague we will get a bus to visit Cesky Krumlov for 1 night and then we want to travel to Vienna and thought it would be easier to get a train from CK but on the Eshop website they say that Cesky Krumlov is not recognised and it is not possible! Do we have to return to Prague to get the train to Vienna? I would appreciate your help. Thanks, Joode

Many thanks tUt. A couple more questions.
1. When does the Summer season start? We will be travelling during May this year.
2. Do you have any idea the cost of the ticket Zagreb to Split (on the tilting train)?
3. Strange that the return ticket is cheaper than 1-way!! Anyway, does that ticket (30 euros) have to be bought in advance or can you just arrive at the station and buy it?
Your advice is appreciated.

Hi TuT,
Thanks for previous info but am still trying to refine travel plans. I just can't seem to get timetables from Croatian rail website and finding it rather frustrating! So, once again I ask your help! I think my main problem is I don't know the actual names of the stations or via what towns.
I would like to know what are the times trains run from Zagreb to Split and how long they take. I know they have a fast tilt train - is it much more expensive than other types such as fast train and express trains.
The other question is getting a train from Zagreb to Budapest that doesn't take a very long time. The ones I have found seem to go via Vienna and some via Villach for a up to a total of some 16 hours! I sure there is one that takes around 6 hours but can't seem to find the times it leaves Zagreb or how much it costs for a 1 way trip.
Thanks,

I just wanted to add the fact that I have just gone onto the OEBB website to have a practice run at selecting a ticket and after entering the info re departure and destination stations and no. of passengers, I was advised that 'only Business tickets could be purchased for this route and to take note of the order no'. So, obviously I was doing something wrong, but what? Do you have any step-by-step instructions anywhere on your site for dodos like me?!! Also, how do you ask or select for a discount such as 2 people travelling together or seniors (over 60s) for instance? Not sure if that applied to Austria but I have read that somewhere!! Thanks again.

Hi, I'm still trying to sort out my actual route and note that I should be able to book the Vienna-Zagreb train (day) trip online at the OEBB site but how far in advance can I do that? Also what is the best fare to ask for? We intend joining a small tour in Zagreb going to Dubrovnik, spend some time there, and then eventually make our way (by bus and/or ferry?) along the coast and onto Ljubljana in Slovenia which brings me to the next question. Can a train fare be booked online for the Ljubljana to Vienna leg or is it better to buy it at the station? What sort of fare should I ask for and approx. how much would it be? Thanks.

Thank you very much for your prompt reply. It seems that the cheaper way to do the trip is by going to Budapest first and that's fine. We will be flying from Australia into Vienna in late April 2010 and are thinking that as we want to visit Slovenia and Croatia as well we may fly on to Dubrovnik first and then do this trip to Prague etc. in late May (when it's a bit warmer) so we probably don't have to start the trip in Vienna as we could return from Croatia (by plane) to any of these cities. Would it be better to fly back to say, Budapest and start from there? Also, is the trip to Cesky Krumlov best taken by train or bus and approximately how much is the return trip from Prague? Your advice would be appreciated as we are in the very early planning stages of this trip. Thankyou.
